It’s Prom season once again and boy oh boy has this become quite the “season” since I was in high school! Now there are Promposals, girls getting manicures, make-up done for the big day…not to mention the price of some of these dresses – Wow!! It’s like a mini-wedding!
Along with all this hoopla are the pre and post-Prom parties. I actually think the pre-Prom parties are quite fun to host. I’ve hosted a couple along the way and have put together some fun ideas if you too will be hosting this year!
Setting the atmosphere!
This really is important! It will get everyone in the mood, your house feels festive and it simply generates a fun atmosphere all the way around.
It doesn’t have to be expensive or over the top, but some pretty flowers in vases spread throughout the house and large, poufy paper machete balls hanging from the ceiling look super cute. Try out these.
Choose carefully here! NO red punch or anything that can stain those beautiful dresses or snazzy tuxes. I like a simple spread of cheese, crackers, fruit and maybe some simple, small cookies. Nothing over the top necessary, just simple.
Non-alcoholic for the prom guests. Water and lemonade is the best way to go – again, don’t want to worry about stains. Get the smallest water bottles you can find and put them in a large tin buckets filled with ice.
Make sure you have a special bathroom designated for the girls to do some final preps, have a little basket out for them with all things girlie; lotions, hairspray, etc.
Make sure those photo locations are ready to go. Inside? Clean up the clutter! Outside? Make sure there’s nothing distracting in the background like a trampoline or overgrown grass – you get the message here! Also, VERY important, make sure you have room on your phone or SD card – worst thing to have happen is the message that you don’t have enough memory left!
Make sure you have some fun tunes pumping in the background. Again atmosphere here! Download this killer playlist.
Invite the parents!
Make sure you invite the parents of all the kids at your pre-Prom party over to take photos and enjoy the moment. Have some adult beverages on hand – in a place you can keep an eye on them and monitor that only adults are consuming.
We have had upwards of 70 people show up at some of our pre-Prom parties! A houseful for sure, but I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything – after all, time goes way to fast, enjoy the present since it truly is a present!
